We discuss a generalization of partitions, called overpartitions, which have proven useful in several combinatorial studies of basic hypergeometric series. After showing how a number of finite products occurring in q-series have natural interpretations in terms of overpartitions, we present an introduction to their rich structure as revealed by q-series identities.

Second, we set up an evaluation and comparison protocol based on fourteen image pairs, five evaluation areas and ten criteria. This protocol also provides disparity, ambiguity, inaccuracy and correct disparity maps. This protocol enables us to study the behavior of the methods we proposed. Third, forty correlation measures are classified into five families: cross-correlationbased measures, clas...

This research focuses on the role played by cultural norms in the long run persistence of gender inequalities. Cultural norms about gender roles are considered to be endogenous and can generate gender inequality and low development traps. The Marquis du Condorcet recognized 200 years ago that majority rule can produce intransitive group preferences if the domain of possible (transitive) individual preference orders is unrestricted. We present results on the cardinality and structure of those maximal sets of permutations for which majority rule produces transitive results (consistent sets). Consistent sets that contain a maximal ...
